Business banking and recordkeeping from day one
Separating personal and business finances is the single cheapest protection most owners skip.

Commingling funds is the most common structural mistake in small business. It complicates taxes, weakens liability separation, and makes financing conversations harder.
The baseline setup
- A business checking account in the entity's name using the EIN.
- A separate card used only for business expenses.
- Bookkeeping software or a consistent monthly reconciliation habit.
- An owner's-pay routine — a transfer, not a random withdrawal.
Why it matters beyond tidiness
Clean records let you see margin, price accurately, prepare an honest return, and present a credible file when you apply for funding. Reconstructed records rarely do any of those things well.
