Most filing delays are not complicated. They are a missing form. Gathering documents before your appointment is the cheapest way to shorten the entire process.

Identity and household

  • Government-issued photo identification.
  • Social Security or ITIN documentation for everyone on the return.
  • Prior-year return, if available.
  • Bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit.

Income

  • W-2 from each employer.
  • 1099-NEC or 1099-K for self-employment and platform income.
  • 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B for interest, dividends, and sales.
  • 1099-G for unemployment or state refunds.
  • 1099-R for retirement distributions; SSA-1099 for Social Security.

Deductions and credits

  • 1098 mortgage interest and property tax records.
  • 1098-T tuition statements and education expense receipts.
  • Childcare provider name, address, and tax identification number.
  • 1095-A if you had marketplace health coverage.
  • Business income and expense summary if you are self-employed.

If a form is missing or wrong

Contact the issuer first and request a corrected copy. Filing with a form you know is incorrect creates a correction later; waiting a short period is usually the better outcome. Bring what you have and we will tell you what is still outstanding.

Never email tax documents, identification, or account numbers through a general contact form. Use the secure client portal.
